A power attenuator reduces dynamic depth to some degree. There is some debate about how significantly an attenuator flattens the dynamic depth. Guitar speakers sound best when pushed hard. Below about 1 watt, guitar speakers sound especially thin and fizzy. You use a conventional cab, putting the attenuator between the amp’s output transformer the amp’s Spk Out jack and the cab. If you drive watts worth of speakers with 60 mW, it will sound thin and fizzy. This is not the fault of the power attenuator; the speakers aren’t designed to respond correctly with such low wattage. Try reducing your cab wattage capacity when attenuating down to the milliwatt TV level. You need to match the impedance of the amp, attenuator, and cab.
Back in the day appliances were considered pieces of home furniture, so a lot of thought and care went into their design. The result was marvelous pieces of technology encased in handsome wood and fabric. It had a few dings in the wood, but it looked fantastic sitting on my desk. It still worked, but only played AM radio.

He is right that the main point of putting in the main power fuse is so that if there is a short the wire will not catch on fire due to excessive current. But the total current draw of your amp is 80 amps, If it draws enough to fry the main power fuse its close to frying your amp fuses as well. The way i see it, If there is a short its just that much sooner the fuse will blow. You can put a A in there but I would stick with an 80 unless you have problems then move up to 90 or A Click to expand I agree here as I manage a car audio shop.
We would prefer to use an 80 A ANL type fuse in-line to the battery. This means that the amp bridges internally. Keep in mind that the PDX amps are super efficient and as such do not draw as much current provided your charging system albeit your alternator is working properly. If voltage were to drop too low then the amp will over compensate by drawing more current which is NOT a good thing if that were to happen.

One should always take caution when handling wires and electrical systems. Before installing a capacitor, you must charge it more on that down below. Use a voltmeter along with a resistor to charge your car audio capacitor. Once the voltmeter shows 12 volts, the power capacitor is fully charged. Now you can proceed to wire the capacitor in parallel with your amp.
Jan 29, · Best Answer: First, if you want to hook up your cap do it after the distribution block. Wire it inline with the power cord between the dblock and the sub amp. You will not need it for a 4 channel amp. This link will show you how you should wire your : Resolved.
A capacitor can help as you suggest but it may need more than that. Restating Steven’s formula – a Farad will supply one amp for one second with one volt of drop. Murphy and reality adjust actual result somewhat but that gives you an idea Capacitor Must be on a DC rail ie not on AC input. Unusual but check what the power pack output voltage specification plate says. Also, a few supplies feed 2 or more voltages from the power pack, but this is unusual.
A superCap may help for longish brownouts. For very substantial brownouts you may not be able to sensibly provide a large enough capacitor. If so you could use several series diodes from battery to 9V rail to drop voltage. Not so crucial if battery is charged from supply usually – see below. If using a battery you could use a rechargeable – connect to rail via diode as above AND a resistor in parallel with diode. Dimension resistor to provide a very small trickle current to keep battery supplied.
Motor Capacitor FAQ
I can get more technical if you want. OK, lets look at a component for an example. Let’s say you have a CD player. It will have a pair of audio output jacks. Most consumer gear has high output impedance. What this means is that the outputs are not very robust and can only feed an input that is also high impedance.
Aug 14, · My condenser fan started acting up so I’m looking for motors. Found this site and thanks to the awesome problem description & photos, I knew I had the same equipment and hopefully the same problem (capacitor).
Motors used in HVAC such as the condensing fan motors or blower fan motors sometimes need help to get moving and to stay running at a steady pace, with no heavy up and down spikes. Not all motors will have a start or run capacitor some can start and run by themselves. Capacitors in HVAC can be separate or can be in a single package.
The Dual Round Capacitors are simply the way engineers are trying to save on space and cost. They could have put two capacitors in a unit but combined them in a single package. A dual capacitor will most often have one side to start the compressor Herm and the other side to start the condensing fan motor. The third single leg on a dual capacitor is a shared common leg. A Start or Run Capacitor can be combined into one capacitor called a Dual Capacitor with three leads, but can be split between two separate capacitors.
The Start Capacitor gives a fan motor the torque it needs to start spinning then stops; while the Run capacitor stays on giving the motor extra torque when needed. If the Start Capacitor fails the motor will most likely not turn on. If a Run capacitor goes bad then a motor can turn on but the running amperage will be higher than normal causing the motor to run hot and have a short life expectancy.
If the unit has two capacitors then one is the Run Capacitor and the other is the Start Capacitor.
How to hook up car speakers to an amp?
How do you hook-up or wire up one light with two on-off switches? For information on how to hook-up one light with two on-off switches, see the Related link “How to wire 3-way and 4-way switches, including wiring diagrams”, shown below. When using the correct size wire, there are several possible configurations of power connection, lighting outlet, and the two 3-way switches.
Power can come from the panel to one switch or the other, or to the light, whichever is convenient.
The purpose of the resistor is to bleed off residual voltage in the capacitor after it has been disconnected from the circuit after start up of the motor. Not all start capacitors will .
The compressor has five wires coming out of it and they connect as follows: My compressor has a red wire and a black wire going to the top of the contractor. Then it has a yellow wire going to the capacitor. The other side of the capacitor has a red wire connected to it and then this wire goes the red hot wire on top of the contractor, Two wire total going to this capacitor. Then two brown wires coming out of the compressor and each one is hooking to the bottom of the contractor where the power comes in with a black wire and a red wire.
Brown to red and brown to black. By this hook up, it is giving instant power to the brown wires and into the compressor it seems. Then the fan motor has a white wire connects to the top of the contractor to the red wire prong. Then the fan motor has a black wire connects the other prong on the top of the contractor. Then the fan motor has two brown wires and one is connected to another capacitor and the other brown with also connects to the same capister on the othere side of it.
Only these two brown wires are going to this capacitor. The fan runs and starts up and the compressor is not starting up with this wiring hook up.

Even if you have a W tweeter, you still need a crossover!!!! A W tweeter is rated for the high-frequency part of a W music signal. If you actually send watts into it, you will burn it out! Even if you don’t burn-out the tweeter, you’ll get distortion if you run bass into it. It’s common to use a tweeter with a lower power rating than the woofer. It wouldn’t be unusual to use a W woofer with a 20W tweeter.
Apr 11, · I dropped two watt subs and a watt amp in my R when I first picked it up (they were from my past car). Wiring them into the stock amp was rather tricky, for more than 1 reason. First off, to get to the wire you need to connect, you need to have small hands and while sitting in the trunk, reach down into the side compartment where the.
I, personally, am a bit leery of method. The output of the swell capacitor is a fairly high impedance node. From the back of the organ: Locate the silver box on top of the AO amplifier that houses the Expression control electronics. It is easily identified as an arm connects the expression pedal to the box, and there is an RCA jack located on one side of the box. We’re going to turn this input to a dedicated output. Remove the 4 flathead screws that hold the box cover on.
These screws are in the sides of the expression pedal box, not on the bottom. Look at the inside of the RCA connector. Cut the lead that connects this cap to the RCA plug. Carefully push this off to the side, and tape the lead so that it does not short out against the metal box or other internal components. This will allow you to revert back to a “stock” M3 should you later decide to.
Moving forward from the RCA plug towards the front of the organ, you will see a terminal with a yellow wire connected to it. This is the output of the expression peddal and has the organ’s un-amplified signal.

When you go to Mouser or Digikey, however, you are presented with tens of thousands of choices. Even after drilling down to the specified capacitance and voltage, you have dozens of candidates, differentiated by such esoteric terms as Tan Delta, Q Value, ESR, etc, etc, etc. First, a quick review of what capacitors are and how they work:

Comment Subscribe to comments with RSS. CampRicco I have two battery banks. I want to be able to plug portable bank into stationary bank for charging. Should I be concerned about the inrush current when connecting portable bank into stationary bank while battery charges are equalizing. Can a resistor be added to cable to slow current while banks are equalizing.
If so where in connection and what value would you recommend. The two battery packs you have are of different capacity, so you are creating a situation where batteries are going to get overcharged. I would recommend charging them separately. My question is can I use 1 battery for my outboard for a 12 volt starting and charging system without disconnecting the 2 batteries. If this happens too often the battery could fail and bring down the whole pack. Thanks for all the info. Tech and Jeremy Fear have thoroughly answered a lot of great questions.
