If you’ve got two 4-ohm SVC subs and your amp is only rated for a 4-ohm load, then you’ll have to put them in series, even though you won’t be able to extract maximum power from the amp.
Jun 16, · Recently i hooked up a friends amp that was a mono block with 2 inputs for speaker wires (2 + and 2-) he had 2 4 ohm DVC subs.I followed the 12 volt subwoofer wiring diagram that said to hook the 2 subs up together in parallel to get a 1 ohm load.
How Do I Hook Up my subwoofer? Hook up Powered Subwoofers: Receiver Pre-Outs Before trying to hook up your subwoofer, you need to identify the connections it has. First, take a look at the back of your subwoofer. There may be more, but this is all you’ll need to properly connect your subwoofer. The last piece of prep work is for you to check your receiver.
If you don’t have this output, you won’t be able to connect your sub this way. Refer to Connecting a Non-Powered Subwoofer to get your subwoofer connected. Necessary Cables for Subwoofer and Pre-Out Connections You’ll need to obtain the following cables to complete your setup: You’ll want a Y-adapter to combine the two RCA jacks on the subwoofer into one. They are labeled Left and Right line-in inputs, but for a typical home theater, you only have one cable coming from the receiver to the subwoofer.
If you don’t have one or don’t want to get one, you don’t need the Y-adapter; just use the left or right input by itself.

How do you hook up a 1 farad capacitor to your amp? Answer 1 You first have to determine which side of the cap is positive andwhich side is negative. You run a wire from the negative side tothe chassis and …for the positive side you run a cable from thebattery to the terminal and from the terminal to the amp. Be careful not to mix up positive and negative on the capbecause it could explode and cause damage.
Answer 2 Because the capacitor is used to filter changes in supply voltageto the amp, the capacitor should be as close to the amp aspossible, and connected with heavy wiring. The capacitor also actsas a huge reservoir to supply lots of current as the amp signalhits high levels.

That might be a bit much for those of you who are starting out. With this being said, the question we want to answer is: One of the biggest things about this little piece state of the art that is noticeable immediately is its impressive low frequency output from a remarkably small enclosure. Additionally, the Hideaway comes with a remote bass-control to let you adjust bass levels on the fly according to your mood.
First of all, I think audiophiles with smaller cars might benefit from this enclosed sub more than most. I mean there are smaller barriers to entry using a compact powered subwoofer as opposed to typical subwoofers, which usually require tons of efforts building enclosures, wiring ,matching an amplifier to the subwoofer …etc. Regardless, this is a brand which is making a name on the car audio market,it is considered to be one of the best brands that focuses on giving you more bang for your buck, and that really appears in the linked to above subwoofer.
It comes with various tunning controls to adjust your bass and give your music the extra punch it needs. The amount of bass it can deliver is impressive given the fact that it lacks venting ports. It is equipped with RCA low and high level inputs and a remote bass level control, not to mention low pass and subsonic filters as well as soft-delay remote turn on.
To put it simply, anyone who loves a good deal which is everyone by the way! But most importantly, you can hook it up in any vehicle, thanks to its preamp and speaker-level inputs.
How Do You Hook Up A Mono Amp To Two 12 Subs
My Jeeps I recently installed 2 kicker comp 10″ in my 98 jeep cherokee. I purchased an 8 guage wiring kit along with my subs. It came with power wire, ground, speaker wire, fuse, and remote wire. You connect the power wire to the positive of the battery and then make sure your fuse is within 18inches of the battery. Then i ran the power wire through the firewall and down the driver side floor panel to the rear of my car.
If you have a upgraded head-unit with rca pre-amp outputs you just connect your RCA’s and follow the same path as your wiring.

Speaker Connections for proper impedance match A note about amplifiers: You should always use the recommended load for your amplifier. However, if you must use a load other than the recommended load, here is a short guide. Most solid-state amplifiers would rather look at an open circuit no speaker at all than a load. Therefore, you can usually use a load that is higher than the recommended load.
Do not use a lower impedance load, as this could cause serious damage to your SS amp. On the other hand, most tube amplifiers need a load to avoid transformer or tube socket damage. If a mismatch can not be avoided on a tube amp, it is better to go towards a lower impedance rather than too high of a speaker impedance. This may stress the tubes some, but, tubes are cheaper than transformers. As the graphic shows, you connect the positive wire to speaker A’s positive terminal, connect a wire from speaker A’s negative terminal to speaker B’s positive wire, and then connect the negative wire to the negative terminal of speaker B.
You could continue this string for as many speakers that you have available, however, it may not be very practical. The impedances add in a series connection. If speaker A equals 8ohms and speaker B equals 8ohms, the total load is A plus B, or 16ohms.

First of all, always go by the RMS rating of everything. If you get a two channel amp, depending on it’s capabilities, you can either hook the 2 subs to their own channel, you can run them off of a single channel, or you can bridge the amp and run both that way. Bridging is simply hooking the two channels of an amp together. When this is do it turns the amp from being 2 channel stereo to 1 channel mono.
Lets say you go with a w 2 channel amp w per channel. If you run a sub off each channel, you will gett w to each. When it is bridged you get a single channel that put out w. In you case, assuming you have 4ohm single voice coil subs, I would look for an amp that is w per channel and is 2ohm mono stable.
This means that you can bridge the amp for a mono, 2ohm load. This is done by bridging the 2 channels together for a total of a w mono load. By wiring the subs in parallel, you drop the impedance ohms by half or close to it. Every time you cut the impedance in half, you double the amps power out put.
What amp would be good for these subs?

How to Wire an Amp to a Sub and Head Unit A sub woofer or two in a vehicle can make the world of difference in listening to music. It is very important to match the RMS of your subs to your amp. You want an amp more powerful than your sub, because you don’t want your sub to clip. Clipping is the number one reason of bass distortion. Steps 1 Gather your equipment Amp, Subs, Stereo, and wiring. If you’re using an after market head unit, go to an electronics store’s stereo department and ask for a wiring harness from your car to the after market head unit.
If you have a Chevy and a Sony stereo go to them and tell them you need a Chevy to Sony wiring harness, they will ask you the year of the vehicle and then go pick it off the shelf, these are usually by the install department behind the counter. Figure out where you’re going to place the amp, put the beginning of your power red wire there and give it about a foot of wire extra, then begin to hide and run the power wire to under the hood.
Run the power wire through the firewall. If you need to drill a hole in the fire wall, be careful not to hit anything on the other side and be sure the drilled hole will not cut through your power line. Electrical tape at the entry point will give the wire added protection. Make sure this wire is safe from any moving objects. If you bought a kit it comes with an inline fuse, if you didn’t, you need to get an inline fuse.

Always a pleasure when people appreciate the time! Quote – ” To clarify, when an amp says 2ohm stable stereo, it really is saying that each channel can handle 2ohms for a 4ohm load rather than each channel can handle 1ohm for a 2ohm load right? On the face of it, 2 Ohms stable means guaranteed to work down into 2 Ohms without causing damage to the Amp, or limiting it’s full power into 2 Ohms.
It ” should ” also mean that it’s capable of tolerating the expected impedance dips that can take it lower than 2 Ohms. Whether a particular Amp does or not, should be obtained from the manufacturer in writing. Or maybe from a Reputable test in some mag or online etc.

You need to run another power wire or you can get a distribution block and split up the wire you already have ran for power. The ground wire you can just connect to a good grounded bolt holding the seats down or something. And as for the RCAs just get a spliter for those too. And on the Kicker subs, The deal with them is that they say that both voice coils MUST be hooked up at all times of it will mess them up A friend of mune had that problem. With the dual 2ohm Kicker’s you can either wire them in 1ohm or 4ohm.
You want to wire that accordingly to what you amp can handle.

Thank you Keith, i think i got it. Looks like i hooked the “tower” four speakers to two channel Sony amp. For some reason two wires going from “L” post on the amp power Right two speakers and two wires going from “R” post on the amp power Left two speakers. Probably just a matter of swapping some wires.
For native 4 channel amp that i want to hook up to 4 in-house speakers and two subs the amp’s manual calls it Tri-mode operation wants me to insert “high pass filter capacitors and a low pass filter inductor into the wiring”. No idea what that is and do i really need it. Don’t even know what the “crossover frequency you wish to achieve”. Otherwise system sounds goood. Thanks in advance for any words of wisdom if there are any.
Wire the 2 pair of in-boats to chnls 1 and 2, set that half of the amp to hi-pass. Wire the two subs to chnls 3 and 4 and set that half to low-pass. Input mode to 2chnl. Plug bass level knob up.
Mono Amp wiring with 2 JBL subs
But what the manufacturer is not showing you is the bandwidth vs. Quality of bass and how well it integrates into a system is paramount. If I have to sacrifice a bit of extension and SPL to achieve this, so be it. The Set-Up I left my EP towards the left front corner behind my couch as it has been for the past 3 years. I placed one EP on top of it and the other EP diagonally located towards the back right of the room.
Luckily the distance between both EP s was relatively equal to the primary listening area making it much easier to integrate them and not have to worry about bass cancellations due to mismanaged time alignment between the two subs.
Hook up the ground as close to your amp as possible . Now you need to run your remote wire. Now you need to run your remote wire. You can run a wire from your battery with a 10/15amp inline fuse as close to the battery as possible.
How do you hook up a new car stereo? Well it helps if you have a repair manual for your car so that you can reference the wiring schematic for the stereo connections it will eliminate a lot of guess work. Using a multimeter find a wire in the connector in the dash that was formerly on the stock radio that has 12 vol…ts when the key is off and this will be your Batt.
Now with the key on find a second wire with 12 volts and this will be your Ign. If you have a power antenna there should be a connection for that on the new stereo and the wiring schematic will tell you which one that is. As for the speakers once again a schematic is the best way but you can take fir instance the left front speaker wires from the new stereo with the unit turned on and tuned to a station and through trial and error find the two that feed the left front speaker or Ive heard you can use a 9v battery and listen for a buzz to identify the correct wires, or use the continuity tester on the multimeter to identify the wires.
